Regulation & Health Policy
Beginning Effective Jan.1, 2010, a pregnant woman must be tested for HIV during her third trimester. If there is no record of her test result from the third trimester, then the woman must be tested at delivery. The law also provides for expedited testing of the mother and newborn at delivery. This testing applies to every pregnancy, unless the mother objects.
The Texas Department of State Health Services has posted information for health care providers on its HIV/STD Program Web page. The Web site also provides resources for patients.
